Director’s Corner

Miss Sherry is always full of laughs.   She never turns down a good read and she has a passion for children’s literature.

Miss Sherry’s family homesteaded in Valley County in 1902.  Valley County has been her families home for over a hundred years.   Miss Sherry’s cousin Gerry Pottenger was on the very first Friends of the Library Boards in Donnelly.  Gerry Pottenger was very instrumental in getting the Library up and going.  In 2017 Miss Sherry worked with her friend and neighbor, Laura Bettis to get a Library District passed.   Miss Sherry was delighted to work alongside many great community members to create the Donnelly Public Library District.

Miss Sherry has been the Director at the Donnelly Public Library since it was founded.  She has a love for education through reading. Miss Sherry believes that libraries are the great equalizers in any community and that they are absolutely essential.

Miss Sherry has a degree, but it is not in Library Sciences. (It is in Behavioral Science) Miss Sherry is an accidental librarian, and loves every minute of it.

Favorite thing about Donnelly:

The people!!!  Donnelly has some great people. The characters in Donnelly are what make a great story.  Jill at the Trading Post aka the Liquor Store is so giving and kind.  Randy Priest the hat guy.  How many towns have a hat guy?  Melissa Maini, the 4th grade teacher. Teacher of the year awards… Melissa Maini deserves the award EVERY year.    Susan Dorris, our Mayor, she is also our baker. The people that make up Donnelly are what make it the greatest community.

Favorite Season:  Fall (September and October)

Favorite Actor / Actress: Julia Roberts

Favorite Musical Artist: Garth Brooks

Favorite Book as a Child:  From The Mixed Up Files of Basil e. Frankweiler

What book would Miss Sherry say everyone should read in 2021 if they did not read it in 2020?

So, many.  Where The Crawdads Sing of course, but probably also The Library Book by Susan Orlean.  I also loved reading about packhorse librarians; try Giver of Stars and The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

The rest is written by me. (Sherry Scheline)

My passion besides reading of course is travel.  Last year Sarah and I went on a trip of a lifetime.  We visited Israel, Jordan, Egypt and had a brief stop in Turkey.  This Spring we are returning to Egypt.  Sarah and I love organizing travel trips.  The education one receives when traveling is incredible.  We encourage you to jump on Pink Suitcase Adventures.

Favorite place I have traveled to:  Petra, Jordan

Egypt is probably up there, I need to see more of Egypt.  March 2023 I am headed to Egypt.
