Camp Library 2022 – Donnelly Public Library District (lili.org)
First, I want to talk to you about the “summer slide.” The “SLIDE” is the loss of learning your child experiences over the summer months. Statistically, learning loss over the summer is shocking. Teachers often play catch up in the fall.
The Donnelly Public Library wants to help your child over the summer by keeping them motivated to read, discover and learn.
The Summer Reading Program at the Donnelly Public Library has two components. One will meet every Wednesday, starting on June 15, 2022, and run through August 31, 2022. This program is available for children in grades K through 5th and will start at 1:00 pm at the library and at 3:00 will continue at the Donnelly Farmers’ Market until 5:00 pm. While at the library, children will learn math and geography, and will read literature pertaining to the theme Oceans of Possibilities, as set by CSLP. The goals of this time are not only to reinforce math, geography, and reading skills to avoid the summer slide but also to enrich social skills with activities which encourage team work. At the Farmers’ Market children will participate in selling items and learn to run a register, use their math skills to add and subtract, and read to others during the pop up library time. Stem activities will be offered as well to encourage curiosity and problem solving skills.
The second component of the Summer Reading Program involves three, week-long day camps which take place at the library. Also offered to children in grades K through 5th, participants will arrive at 8:00 am and stay until 5:00 pm. Again, the theme is Oceans of Possibilities, and students will investigate the life cycle of Idaho’s Chinook Salmon.
Summer Reading Program will be Wednesdays 1-3
Every Wednesday from 1-3 we will feature an innovative program for children K- 5th grade.
We will also be participating in Donnelly Farmers’ Market. We will have limited contact while at Farmers’ Market but we will be there reading. This is not just an opportunity for your children to listen to some wonderful books, but it will also give you an opportunity to shop while minimizing the exposure of your child to some of the high risk elderly individuals around farmers’ market. We will be situated over by the playground this year at Farmers’ Market and hope this will allow us the opportunity to involve the children in play as well as reading. Our intern will be working at Farmers’ Market and there to help you with your children. (4-5th graders you may contact Miss Sherry about helping work the book booth as well as participating with Junior Friends of The Donnelly Library.
