First, I want to talk to you about the “summer slide.” The “SLIDE” is the loss of learning your child experiences over the summer months. Statistically, learning loss over the summer is shocking. Teachers often play catch up in the fall.
The Donnelly Public Library wants to help your child over the summer by keeping them motivated to read, discover and learn.
Every Wednesday from 3-6 we will be at Farmers Market here in Donnelly. We will be presenting our reading program this year and hiring some high school to play games, etc… #SummerReadingReimagined For more on Donnelly Farmers’ Market please go: HERE!
The theme for the Summer this year is Adventure Begins At Your Library.
Our Camp Kids will be at Farmers’ Market and participate in selling items and learn to run a register, use their math skills to add and subtract, and read to others during the pop up library time. Stem activities will be offered as well to encourage curiosity and problem solving skills.
The second component of the Summer Reading Program involves 10, week-long day camps which take place at the library. You read that right TEN weeks of #CampLibrary 10. Also offered to children in grades K through 5th, participants will arrive at 8:00 am and stay until 5:00 pm. Again, the theme is Adventure Begins At Your Library, and students will together adventure throughout Valley County. The goals of this time are not only to reinforce math, geography, and reading skills to avoid the summer slide but also to enrich social skills with activities which encourage team work.
