We acknowledge the ancestral homelands of those who were here before us & those who still live here, keeping in mind the integrity of this territory where some of the area Native people identify as Nez Perce / Nimiipuu
“I am tired of fighting…
from where the sun now stands,
I will fight no more.”
Chief Joseph, known by his people as hnmató•wyalahtquit / In-mut-too-yah-lat-lat (Thunder coming up over the land from the water)
Chief Joseph said “I never said the land was mine to do with as I choose. The one who has the right to dispose of it is the one who has created it.”
We at the Donnelly Public Library are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime for us. We have established a wonderful after-school program in Donnelly and have maintained it over the last few years. One of the difficulties at present is our building occupancy is 16. We are forced to limit our program and have it primarily outdoors. We purchased the land to the east of the Library with the hope of expanding the present Library. We are currently working on the strategic plan to make it align with our land purchase as well as our growing needs. We have BIG plans with immediate needs. The City of Donnelly Local Option Tax Money has been allotted to us for the purchase of an Outdoor Classroom. Through careful consideration and much thought, we are getting a Tipi for our students. We will have a large Tipi for classroom space and a smaller Tipi for quiet reading.
The Tipi is slated to arrive next Tuesday. We have checked the weather report and we are aware snow is expected. Many hands make light work. We would LOVE to have as many men and women gather at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 8th to set up our Tipi. We will have hot chocolate, cider and chili for all who come. Please take some time and review the Tipi Pitching Instructions prior to next week. This will be a joyous FAMILY NIGHT at the Library.

WELCOME
We hope that our community will feel welcome in the classroom and that it will be a place of learning and community. We will strive to promote the understanding and use of nimíipuu’neewit (traditional Nez Perce life-ways) and we will work to bestow this on all who visit.
