On August 22, the Donnelly Public Library had the privilege of hosting the Long Valley Pioneer Picnic, which is the longest running celebration in the county, and 2021 marks its 100th year. The Pottenger family was honored at the event held at the barn in the once-flourishing town of Roseberry, of which they were the founders. Guests were treated to photographs and family memorabilia of Pottenger ancestors, especially Cynthia Pottenger who wrote the book My Roseberry, a charming account of life in and around Roseberry from 1888 to 1912 and who was the first baby girl born in the county. Members of the Pottenger family recounted stories of their family, and guests enjoyed music of the Lake Water Band and a pot luck lunch.
