We were joined by the Valley County Sheriff’s Office to talk to our students about Cyber Safety.
This class is designed for elementary students.
We want to encourage our students to use online reading applications like SORA and EPIC, but we want them to practice safe cyber practices.
Parents were welcome to join.
Officer Jeremy Mitchell came from the Valley County Sheriff’s Office. He gave all of the students Sheriff badges.
The students ask a lot of questions, and some were even about internet safety.
Our state was Florida. We learned about the Florida Keys and had limeade and Key Lime Pie.
We also could not celebrate Florida without Florida Original Orange Juice and Oranges. We love the SUNSHINE State.
The students were given travel brochures compliments of Epic Escapes Travel Agency. The students had to go on a scavenger hunt to find books in the Library that were located on their travel brochures. Miss Bethany talked to the students how just Disney alone there were 537 matches according to Biblionix.
Keyword: disney
Results: 537 matches
If you are wanting to know what is in our Library go to www.donnelly.biblionix.com
The students also received Florida sand from the Baust Family. Every bag had sand and even a shell or two. Miss Sherry also talked about how one of her favorite writers is Kate DiCamillo and encouraged the kids to check out some of her chapter books. Those set in Florida should be of particular interest.
Miss Sherry recommends the Three Rancheros Trilogy as well.
Checking out any Mercy Watson book can also earn you a brag tag. Miss Sherry didn’t announce that though. Only the students reading the blog post know it. Mercy Watson.

- Book List: EPIC Florida
- Math: DISNEY (Disney World is located in Orlando, Florida) I found some great Disney themed Codebreaker worksheets on TeachingSquared. Disney on TeachingSquared
- Science: Kennedy Space Center is located in Florida. We can’t discuss Florida without adding NASA
NASA has been featuring NASA at home. It is the most jam packed website for Stay At Home fun that I have found yet. Learning Space at Home is broke down by grade level and includes videos, activities and more. The site is full of coloring books, science videos, and activities to explore space from your living room. NASA at Home is really worthy of a few days of discovery.
Inspiration is possibly my favorite page on the NASA website.

7. Book Pick: Because of Winn Dixie
I love Kate Dicamillo. You may not know but I grew up in a preacher’s home. I felt a connection with Opal. The story is about the summer Opal and her father, the preacher, move to Naomi, Florida, Opal goes into the Winn-Dixie supermarket-and comes out with a dog. A big, ugly, suffering dog with a sterling sense of humor. A dog she names Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie is better at making friends than anyone Opal has ever known, and together they meet the local librarian, Miss Franny Block, who once fought off a bear with a copy of WAR AND PEACE. After you read it you can tell me if you think Miss Franny Block or Miss Sherry Scheline is the better librarian. 🙂
