Day Four

We have been reading a book with the kids all week so this morning we started out with reading that book. Beth came and taught us about germs and where they are found. Then Rebecca taught us about algae at the lake. When the kids came back they all got sprayed with the hose and had a squirt gun fight.
The kids found this awesome creature at the lake as well today. Andrew our MOSS AmeriCorps did some research on it to figure out what is wat and this is what he found out:
According to the source below, it is a freshwater bryozoan (likely Pectinatella magnifica), one of the few freshwater varieties that have been studied. Typically, they are found in large quantities throughout the world’s shallower oceans. They are filter feeders that live in large colonies for safety and are actually a really positive thing to see in a body of water as they are an indicator species that can highlight ecosystem health (unfortunately, this does not include the presence of cyanobacteria).
