We welcomed the Mountain Community School Students today. It was a wonderful time. All Together Now!!!
We started together by reading The First Day Of School
The DRC students then read the first chapter of Harry Potter. We are reading an illustrated version designed by Minalima. It is a beautiful version of the book.
Miss Maggie worked with the early readers and read the following: The Pigeon Needs A Bath, The Pigeon Will Ride The Roller Coaster, The Pigeon Wants A Puppy, and The Pigeon Finds A Hot Dog.
First, a disclaimer. Miss Sarah will be reading Spanish books to your children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She has learned a very small amount of Spanish during her lifetime and admits her pronunciation leaves much to be desired, but vows to her best. She will learn Spanish vocabulary along with your children. With that in mind, today’s book was Los Ojos del Tejedor (The Eyes of the Weaver) by Christina Ortega. This was a true story from Ortega’s childhood when her grandfather taught her the eight-generation family tradition of weaving Chimayo blankets.
Miss Sarah will be teaching Latin to the older students on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays.

Sept. 7, 2023
Miss Sarah read Un Gato y Un Perro (A Cat and A Dog) by Claire Masurel and Bob Kolar and we learned a few Spanish words with that cute, little book. She also read A Train to Spain by Wade Ray, and we learned that people in Spain speak Spanish but also some speak Basque and so a discussion of our local Basque culture ensued. We also discussed how people could possibly build a tunnel through a mountain, but Miss Sarah reminded them that even the Romans were tunneling through mountains before Christ was born.
Sept. 8, 2023
Today was a Latin day and Miss Sarah read two new books to everyone: The Fabulous Lost & Found and the Little Mouse Who Spoke Latin by Mark Pallis and Am I Small? by Philipp Winterberg. The students learned a bit about the Romans and some Latin words, such as galerum (hat), caseus (cheese), putet (it stinks), vale (goodby), parva (small), and magna (big)
