The kids had a great time learning about Turkey and then playing with Kinetic Sand for a wonderful STEM activity! We learned that Turkey has a great market place with more than 3,000 shops called the Grand Bazaar. Turkey is the only country that belongs to two continents (Asia and Europe)! We also learned that Mount Ararat is sacred to the people of Turky.
We talked a little about Turkey’s most powerful and important city, Istanbul. Miss Sherry is currently in Istanbul!
Our STEM activity correlated with the fact that Turkey sits on two major faults leaving 96% of Turkey at a high risk for earthquakes. The kids used kinetic sand to replicate different kinds of geological structures like a fault. The map of the world below shows the world’s hotspots for earthquakes!
We ended our day preparing for Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) by making some masks! While they worked on their masks, we completed chapter 4 of Around the World in 80 Days.
Miss Sherry read a book called Islam in Turkey.
