I’m not YELLING at you. I am speaking FIRMLY. (From the heart <3 )
We are officially done with the first two months of our wonderful summer. In exactly one month our kids in Donnelly will be returning to school. I know how easy it is to not encourage reading throughout the summer. Everything from the beach calling your name to justifying to yourself that it is just better if they are playing outside when they can. Trust me “I GET IT!” Here it is though… YOU GOT ONE MONTH!
They need to see words. They need to hear words. They NEED words!
20 minutes a day. 20 minutes that is what your child needs. 20 minutes of “words.” Bring the book to the beach, bring a book camping, bring a book to the picnic when you are picking huckleberries. #BringTheBook Kindergarten through second grade it is o.k. to read the same book on repeat. You start by learning to read so that you then will be able to read to learn.
Summer Reading Program at the library ends August 8th with our celebration of HOLLYday. That means only 3 more days.
SPACE CAMP is August 14th and 15th 9-5 and is FREE for our kids that earned their way by reading. ($125 for kids that didn’t) Space is limited ONLY 20 spots.
Your kids can also jump in for some reading time each week at Donnelly Farmers’ Market on our reading rug. Each week we read a story every 30 minutes.
If your child has not picked up a book all summer, stop in at the library. Miss Sherry, Miss Sarah and Miss Katy are all eager to help your child find the right book for them. Visit… Read…Repeat…
