Just a reminder that on July 1, 2024, new rules are in place at the Donnelly Public Library. We are only 1024 square feet and do not have ample space to separate our children’s and YA sections from our adult material. We remain a library that serves all, but we have been forced to make a few changes due to legislation.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Donnelly Public Library District is dedicated to providing a welcoming, enriching, and comprehensive learning center to all members of the community. The Library will endeavor to provide diverse resources to promote literacy, education, and enrichment. We strive to be accessible to all and will continuously adapt to the changing community needs.
Parents / Guardians may choose one of three options for their youth.
______I will be present with my child at all times at the Donnelly Public Library.
______ My child has my permission to be at the Donnelly Public Library without me as the parent for programs, but may not check out any library materials, including books, movies, tablets, etc…
______ As the parent or guardian of ______________________________, I recognize that the Donnelly Public Library contains “Adult Material.” I hereby waive my right(s) to the provisions afforded me through HB710 and allow my child the right to check out materials without my being present. I understand that the librarians have not been afforded the opportunity to review every item in their inventory and therefore are not responsible for the content of items that my child may check out. I affirm that my signature on this clause permits my child to circulate materials that may or may not have “adult” themes.
You may choose the option that best serves your family and your family’s needs. Minors who do not have a parent to accompany them or have a signed form may not at this time use the services of the Donnelly Public Library. This is not what we see as the best option for our Library, but at present, with the current legislation, it is what we see as the best option. ” We strive to be accessible to all” will continue to be the heart of our mission statement. We are going to adapt to this change and continue to fight for the freedom to read and equal access to all.
All complaints about the new policy can be directed to the Library Director at [email protected] For the next several months we will address HB710 at each Board Meeting and continue to update the public should we be able to adapt differently and make continued changes to our policy as better understanding is reached regarding this legislation.
