This week the youth are going to build a bridge out of toothpicks and they are going to have an egg drop competition. The objective for this week is for the youth to learn about problem solving and strong shapes.
Toothpick Bridge lesson
Materials:
Toothpicks
Glue
Paper
Pencil
Objective:
The youth should be able to identify the strong shapes and they should be able to design and problem solve.
Instructions:
Kids are going to draw up several designs for us to talk about and see how feasible they would be to build with toothpicks.
Then the kids are going to choose a design to start building
Once they are done glueing and it has dried they are going to test the bridges.
Questions:
What shape is the strongest shape?
How would you change your bridge?
Egg Drop
Materials:
Cardboard
Popsicle sticks
Felt
Styrofoam
Glue
Newspaper
Plastic bottle
Paper
Pencil
Eggs
Objective:
Kids should be able to problem solve and learn how to build something cool.
Instructions:
The kids are going to design their own egg drop case. The goal is for their egg not to break.
Once they are done we are going to drop them from a tall height and if there’s breaks they lose.
The youth with none broken eggs win the competitions.
