We learned so many fun facts about Switzerland and Austria (not Australia)! Our snacks (Swiss cheese, ham, crackers, and a brownie) today reflected some of what we learned. Switzerland takes great pride in their cheese and chocolate (and clocks), and Austria’s evening meals are usually small (cold meats, cheese, or smoked fish) since its main meal is lunch.
While we enjoyed our snacks in our snow-formed classroom, Emerie read us The Rainbow Fish by a Swiss author, Marcus Pfister. Later, the kids took time to read individually or complete homework! We have a few other books by Marcus Pfister in the Library. Miss Sherry has read The Rainbow Fish, Shaggy and Boris Beaver. Marcus Pfister was born in 1960 in Bern, Switzerland. His website has several fun activities for students. Rainbow Fish
Miss Sherry: I also read Maria Von Trapp by Amy Tiehel. One of my favorite movies growing up was The Sound of Music. I loved singing along. I knew every song by heart and could recite almost all the lines. When I was in Vermont, I visited the Von Trapp Lodge in Stowe. If you come and tell Miss Sherry you read Maria Von Trapp by Amy Tiehel, you could earn a Vermont Brag Tag.
