Day 3 of camp began with the campers practicing turning negative emotions into positive ones. Miss Sherry started by giving an example of how you can turn a negative situation around and see the “silver lining”. After everyone in the circle had a chance to practice putting a positive spin on things, we broke up into our groups for stations.
Miss Sherry decided since the campers were going to put on a play of “The Little Mermaid”, they should also perform one song from the Disney movie, so the first station gave the kids a chance to get comfortable with the lyrics before performing it in front of an audience. In our other stations, Miss Abbie worked with campers on the 3D printer, Alexis helped the kids make clay beads, and the last station gave the kids the chance to help Cason with the playground he is busy putting together.
After stations, we ate an early lunch in order to prepare for the play. Today we had the option of roasting our own hotdogs over the firepit or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We also had salad and tater tots, with fruit cups for dessert.
When everyone was done with lunch, it was time to get into costumes and apply stage makeup for the play. Everyone looked so great!
We invited the campers’ parents to watch our performance, and we had a great turnout, with a total of 41 adults in attendance! We tried to capture the performance on video, but unfortunately due to the heat, technology wasn’t working properly. We were able to capture part of the play, and will put it up for viewing soon.
When the play was over we had to hurry to change back into our “street” clothes in order to get over to the farmers’ market.
Wow, what a full and exciting day we had today! We can’t wait for tomorrow.
